VEGAN Coffee Protein Smoothie!

Looking for the perfect vegan, post workout smoothie?! Then you have come to the right place! This week’s recipe is a protein packed, VEGAN COFFEE SMOOTHIE!
It is super important to replenish your muscle fibres after a workout to ensure that our muscles heal properly and stay healthy! How do we do this?! With protein! One of the fastest ways to get protein into your system is with a protein smoothie! With little ingredients, short prep time, and only a couple of minutes needed to blend it all up, you can have this delicious smoothie ready in under 5 minutes! If you don’t have time to cook up a protein packed meal after a workout, this smoothie is the perfect option for you!
When choosing protein for your smoothie, to keep it vegan, make sure you are using a plant based whey protein powder. Either chocolate or vanilla will work depending on what kind of smoothie you are looking for! I choose to use vanilla whey protein. You can choose to use any kind of nut milk, I prefer almond – the most important part to keep in mind is the added sweetener. Make sure you are using an UNSWEETENED nut milk! Sweetened milk contain a ton of added sugar and will add unneeded carbs into your smoothie. If you would like your smoothie to be a bit sweeter without adding any extra sugar, try adding a couple teaspoons of cocoa powder.
Now one of the most important ingredients in the smoothie – COFFEE! I chose to use 1 long shot of espresso, made with my Nespresso machine! I LOVE my Nespresso machine! I use it almost everyday! The coffee is super high quality and tastes leanmazing in this smoothie! If you do not have a Nespresso machine, a regular long shot of espresso OR a quarter cup of regular black coffee (from a Keurig or drip coffee) will do. When the coffee first comes out, it will obviously be hot! If we poor it straight into the blender with the other ingredients it will melt some of the ice and banana! This is something to look out for! If you like your smoothie thicker, try adding an ice cube to the espresso to cool it down before adding it into the mix!
Here’s how to make it:
2 handfuls of ice cubes
1 frozen banana
1 cup of unsweetened almond milk (adjust for thickness)
1 scoop Vega – vegan vanilla whey protein (or chocolate)
1 long shot, espresso
Add all ingredients into the blender
Blend and enjoy!
